The Drones And Sticks Club was formed in February 1999 after a group of keen people got together and decided they wanted to put their talents to good use for the pipe band movement.

The Band has developed a varied playing repertoire including a concert format that is very popular with supporters and the public. Such was the support for the band that it quickly establish a schedule of parades that keeps it busy throughout the year.
The Band celebrrated its tenth birthday with a very successful celebratrory dinner at which it performed the tune The Drones & Sticks Pipe Band written by Musical Director Kerry Marshall.
Some years ago, the band travelled to Wanganui to present a concert for the residents of a local rest home and then play at the Wanganui Society's Ingleside, and this has become an annual trip for the band.

The band's parades have included Anzac Day, Hastings Blossom Fesitval, Napier Christmas Parade, the EIT Graduation, and the Napier Art Deco Parade.

There are a number of people in the area who do not want to put in the sort of effort required to participate on one of the senior bands in the region and yet they would enjoy regular but less pressured participation in a band. The Drones and Stick Club does this by being a parading band
